many reasons, some want attention, some get a thrill out of getting away with something considered illegal, and others are career thiefs that do not know how to earn a decent living any other way. i think the great majority rationalize that they are entitled to what they shoplift because they feel so removed from the one they are stealing from and do not believe they are causing a signficant amount of harm, sort of like eating a grape in a supermarket.

I'm trying to decide if you're being serious or sarcastic.
Some shoplifters steal because they have no respect for others. Others do it out of a cumpulsion to steal. Either one is downright sick.

a lot of people who have money steal because it gives them a rush that they're doing something illegal and getting away with it. In this scenario, they often steal useless things that they don't even need.

But most people that steal...don't care to work for that which they want... they don't think they should have to. For some reason they think they deserve it so they take it.
