3 to 5 bucks

I worked at Pizza hut sometime around 93-95 or 96 so this is a long time ago during reasonable gas prices time.

We used to get $.50 per delivered order as a driver.

I wouldn't be mad at a $1 tip, especially if it was a $10-$15 order or a poorer area of the delivery area.

$2 I was happy with. Anything above that I was very happy with.

There were a few times I was disappointed by delivering upwards of 10-15 pizzas for a huge kids party, have to park far from the party because of all the cars, and deliver the pizza into the back yards with multiple trips and get like a $2 trip for a 20 minute event where I felt like a caterer rather than a delivery guy. That sucked since it used up a lot of time I could've delivered 2-4 orders and at least got $4-$8 with a lot less grief.

***Moral of the story: If you are directing the delivery guy to set pizzas out on picnic tables and you ordered 15-20 pizzas and the guy/gal cannot carry your entire order in on one trip...tip him at least 10% of the order.

Last thing, the pizza guys may not remember your face or name, but they will begin to remember your address if you order at least twice a month and they will remember if you tip nicely or suck at tipping. Sucking won't result in anybody spitting on your pizza, but the drivers will try to avoid your order, or if stuck with it, they will deliver it last if they go out with multiple orders on a busy night like friday or saturday.

The only time I do not tip is when I hand the driver a large bill ($50 bill on a $20 order, for instance) and he snidely asks "Ya want any change?" or "How much do you want back?" This happens to me all the time. Well, I was going to give you a tip, but since you assumed that I'm giving you $30 on a $20 order, you can kiss my butt! You get nothing, Mr. Rude! Here's your tip - Politely hand me ALL of my change, and I will tip you what I feel you deserve. That's why it is called a tip. I am not required to give you anything!

I almost always give $3. Don't always be stingy just because the driver is late. Maybe the girl on the phone wrote something down wrong. Maybe the cook forgot to make the order or dropped it. Maybe they are REALLY busy. Sometimes it can't be helped. I only start deducting tip money if it goes over an hour & 15 minutes... And big orders (like for a business or party) get bigger tips.

(For a funny movie clip about tipping, watch the intro scene of Reservoir Dogs...)

I used to manage a national chain pizza place and before then I delivered... yes, some places have a delivery fee - but that goes ONLY to the store, not the drivers! (our drivers got paid per run they went on but not enough to cover expenses) Drivers use their own cars, own gas and aren't compensated that much for it, they also make min. wage... I now ALWAYS tip atleast 6 bucks - and for a BIG order, I always tip atleast 25% especially if they move the pizza's for you...

Maxwell... is right... my drivers, along with myself, knew our "favorite" customers... when your address popped up, we knew if it was a good tip or not - my drivers would always take a pizza to a person they knew wouldn't tip that well last... the better you tip, the more the drivers want to deliver to you - we always threw in extras too like free sodas or wings to loyal good tippers :)

I know that if it's a franchise the drivers keep all of their tips - if the store you order from is corperate, the store gets a percentage, so know you're favorite pizza place!

If it's on time, and the order is correct, I tip around $3. This is generally at least 15% of my order.

One of the pizza places we get pizza from, we ALWAYS get the same delivery guy, and he's AWESOME - knows that we like extra blue cheese dipping sauce and so just brings it. We tip him about $5 whenever we order from there.

You have to tip the delivery people because they only make like $3 an hour plus a little for gas mileage. They get paid hourly like a waitress and waitresses are supposed to get 20% of the bill in tips.

I usually tip 20% unless they have a delivery fee, then I minus that from the tip.

I usually tip $4, for the gas. Both the Car gas and the gas the pizza gives me.

i usually tip 5 or 6 bucks...they have a crappy job (especially because of the people who don't tip or tip a dollar)....combined with gas, grumpy customers, etc. unless they are AWFUL- tip well- servers and delivery guys also remember good tippers, so it may pay off.

also- pay in cash. even if you paid for your pizza iwth a credit card. cash tips are not automatically reported to the IRS, so it is easier on their tips and affects payroll ,as well.

They are providing you a service by bringing your pizza to your home. You should tip them, the same as you would tip the waitstaff at a restaurant. They don't get paid a whole lot either.
