Graduating is not guarantee that you can read. I have a friend who graduated and he can't read or write. I guess it was easier to push him through rather than helping him.

Not necessarily. The Self-Esteem movement in America has made it possible even for the most illiterate among us to graduate from high school without even a basic knowledge of reading or writing. It's not about academic achievement here, it's about making every child feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Some of the people on YA can't even capitalize or punctuate their writing when they ask a question or make a response. What does that tell you?

No, the education system in America is pretty bad. Most can read basic sentences, but it's difficult for them to comprehend meaning. That said, some of the most brilliant people I've ever met have been Americans. I always wonder how they would have done elsewhere.

yes a child can read after finishing highschool.
i have had great reading skills since elementary. Its usually not a teachers fault, the student and parents are at fault also.

Are the majority of children who have completed public school able to read well?
We know that many of them are unable to spell or use proper grammar.
*wink*

p.s. you look nothing like your avatar-(not that there is anything wrong with that!)

Your question makes no sense at all. A person can 'finish' highschool whenever they want its called dropping out. They may or may not be able to read, but if they Graduate then yes, they can read.

My child and all of his classmates can read age appropriate books and he is in Kindergarden so I don't know what you are talking about.
