Instead of consolidating call the customer service with your credit card companies and ask for a lower rate. They are only usually good for about 6 months though as they usually give you the current promo rate. You could also keep applying for credit cards with the low rates and roll them over. Personally I would ask for a rate reduction and then take the card with the lowest balance and try to put extra on it until it is paid off (make minimum payments on the others, but make sure you stay ahead of the interest and don't go over your credit limit). you then take that money and add it to the payment for the next card until it is paid off and then keep rolling those payments to the next card. Sometimes consolidation can hurt your credit score. You will have an appreciation for not wanting to get back into debt if you approach it this way.

Sounds like you are looking for an unsecured loan. Check with your local credit union or bank.

Before you do any of this, I suggest you read The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. The fact is most people that consolidate debt end up in more debt in 12 months or less because they didn't change the behavior that got them in debt. We did that, we consolidated and then bam! and emergency happened and we went back into debt. Not until we saved an emergency fund and decide to get out of debt and stop using credit did the unsecured loan actually help us get out of debt.
