well you really shouldnt follow those things. get her something you know she will like, if she like jewls get her that. or maybe something her fav color. if I was you I would ask a family memeber to help you, that is the best thing for guys to do, ask a female family memeber!!! good luck! she is luck to have you!

Forget the standard - that is for people outside the marriage should they wish to buy you a gift.
Think about her and think about you - deeply think - what is your most favorite things todo together?
Try something new - my guy and I had a picnic by the waterfront and danced to the music of the water up on the tower as the sunset.
Get something framedsuch as a favorite picture from your honeymoon and give it to her over a romanitc dinner.
Be sure to let her know how much more in love with her you've become after this first year.

It's the paper anniversary, so get her something that she'll like that's made of paper. Books that she likes to read, tickets to a play, movie, show, etc. Anything that's technically paper. There's even a website I remember seeing that sells paper roses that you can send her. Don't listen to women about this, of course they're going to tell you to buy expensive stuff, most women want jewelry and other expensive but completely useless items.

forget the standard stuff...take her on a romantic trip somewhere. you can get good deals if you check out the various travel websites like travelocity, orbitz, or expedia. you don't even have to leave the US. How about Key West? or New Orleans? They are so many "sexy and romantic places you can go for the weekend domestically. If you are really adventurous go somewhere in the caribbean. Mexico is quick to get to or Domincan Republic or the Bahamas. Trust me...she will love you even more for coming up with idea. Good luck!

I have to agree, diamonds are a girl's best friend.
Women love jewelry and flowers. However, if budget's an issue, prepare a nice dinner at home with her favorite dishes, bring some flowers and attach a meaningful card. Women like being pampered and if you make her feel special and loved, I assure you, it will be a memorable night for you both.
