I broke &/or fractured all of my ribs at the same time! (I fell off a horse and landed on my butt hard enough to bust up everything!) Bless his heart, nothing really can be done. He needs to take it easy for a few weeks to be sure not to cause futher damage. Be very careful if you consider wrapping - they would not wrap mine because it can cause pnemonia. I found releif in alternating between cool and warm compresses and by taking warm showers. He should also be sure to have a follow up visit about 6 wks after for new xrays to be sure things have healed properly.

Best wishes to him!

He should be fine - pain wise - in a week or so. It will not cause additional injury. A fractured bone normally takes about 6 weeks to heal, but breathing causes a stress on it. Sometimes you get a cartilage injury to you rib cage that hurts and takes a while to heal. The key is to avoid aggravating the injury.

Do NOT allow a chiropractor try to manipulate a fractured rib. It would disrupt the healing process.

I had broken ribs as a child from a gymnastics routine I had done. I was not allowed to do anything! The pills I took knocked me out for most of the days. After about a month I was able to go back to gymnastics and swimming. Now a days my ribs do get sore if I do a lot of activity. But there is not much a doctor can do but have you stay off your feet and get better.

Ive had broken ribs and there isn't really anything they can do about them. It is very painful and it takes time to heal. Every one kept telling my 2 mos. , but it actually took 3. He should try not to do anything that will injure them further. It seemed to me like a very long time, but the pain will lessen through the healing process.

that's right... they can't do much for it.. wrap his ribs (where that are broken) with ace bandages. it keeps them from moving as much and that helps the pain. it hurts for about 2 to 3 weeks, then not as much. It will feel healed in a 4 to 6 weeks.

Taht's pretty much correct that they can't do much of anything as it's not like they can splint or cast a rib. He just needs to take it easy until he's healed.

I had a dislocated rib and it was soooooo painful. Maybe a chiropractor can help. They have lots of ways to soothe muscles around the bones (sounds waves for example). If you go take your xrays.

dr is right, not much they can do.. takes about 6-8 weeks to heal.. but pain should start subsiding in 2-4 weeks.

Yes, it can lead to other problems.
First, how bad is the break?
Secondly, does your husband smoke?
Is he overweight?
There are many factors that you have to take in account before the correct answer can be given.
