Good question. They keep defending Romney after he changed his whole stance on abortion, gays and guns just to fit the mold and get the votes. But the funny part is that if Fred Thompson runs they'll drop Romney like a bad habit. They're just desperate right now for a viable candidate, period, not that they'd ever admit it. It's endlessly amusing to me these days that they're getting beat over the head with their own rhetoric - "flip flopper." Romney's name could be next to that in the dictionary, along with "opportunist."
They're so scared of Hillary that they focus on her "accents' when all candidates tend to try and talk in the vernacular of the area they are campaigning in. Not too hard for her to fall into a Southern dialect after living in Arkansas all those years, but let's not let common sense get in the way of a good poke with a stick by a Republican huh? In fact, they are so scared of Hillary that they completely target her and never mention Obama talking like a black preacher at the same time in the same state, when normally he doesn't talk anything like that. This claptrap is apparently the best they can do - that and their favorite new catch phrase for Democrats - socialists.

They didn't flip flop. The responsibilities of the federal government are different from those at the state and local levels. So they are just putting their views on different issues in the perspective of a Presidential candidate rather than that of a Mayor, or Governor, or Congressman.
If you want to talk about flip flops, lets look at the vote for the war in Iraq. Democrats voted for it, now they want to "take it back". That's a little more serious than adopted dialects.
Who are these people?

Most professional politicians are all the same, meaning that theyre nothing but vote-whores who only care about getting elected and staying in power. Sure, they flip-flop constantly, to try and get votes. Its all part of the big game they play of prostituting themselves. And you know what? The ones with the most money are the ones who prostitute themselves the most. You think that money falls from the sky? Theres over 30,000 lobbyists in Washington, all working for their respective clients and givin money to these whores so that their clients will get special favors later on.
The whole system is corrupt as hell and people wonder why Washington and politics in general is so dysfunctional.
If you want real choices and things other than empty promises, overused rhetoric and hollow threats, you have to look a bit harder.
The only two candidates in this race who arent prostituting themselves to no end are Mike Gravel (D) and Ron Paul (R). They tell the truth and have REAL ideas about how to make this country better. I'm supporting Gravel, but you should check them both out if youre as sick as I am of politics-as-usual.

They don't flip-flop... they just see what the public's majority is concerned in, and they change to please the public. Same for Democrats... same for all politicians. Its a free country and you have the right to change your mind, and the last thing you want is to have your beliefs to be a part of the minority.
However, the bigger picture here is why do politicians focus on needless facts spun around and twisted way out of proportion to get elected? They purposely omit facts to have things perceived better. Take my advice and turn off FOX News.

I think it is only a "flip-flop" if they go back again to the original . . .
Humans learn, and grow. And that brings about a change of heart in some things.

Good that you point that out as I just read one question regarding changing accents to get elected. Sort of the pot calling the kettle black when they've both been in the coals.

Because if they came right out and said they wanted a bigger Federal government and a huge national debt, people would know them for what they really are...

Politicians of all stripes do it, and that includes Al Gore and Hillary Clinton.
But not all do it.
So, what's your point?
