Use tampons! I used to only use pads, and I was really paranoid too. But using tampons and pads at the same time really helps your confidence. Pads are just the backup in case something goes wrong, and then frequently replacing tampons on your heavier days will prevent you from experiencing overflow.

At night, it's not the best idea to use tampons because of an increased risk of Toxic Shock Syndrome, but if you can find very long pads then you should be safe no matter which way you sleep.

I hope that helps!

Okay, first things first. Nighttime. The best way is to get a towel that is a compatible color - like dark red, so that if something gets on it, it will not show. So then you can put a garbage bag on top of the sheet and under the towel. This way, if you leak a lot and it goes through the towel, the bag will keep it from getting on the sheet and on the mattress. The towel also helps to keep the bag from sticking to your skin and making you sweat.

As far as at school goes, I know it is a hard thing. I was really embarrassed to get up and walk around back then too. The best bet is to make sure you have a tampon in so that the least amount will be able to get out during class. Also, I know a lot of girls that just wear a tampon and a panty liner -- don't do this. If you are really concerned about leaking too much and getting it on your clothes, you need more than just a panty liner. Wear a good pad. This should be able to catch anything that gets past the tampon.

Then, of course, go to the restroom between each class if you are flowing heavily. The good news is, the heavy flow usually only last a day or two and the rest of the time, it is not much of an issue.

Also, keep the towel thing in mind for when you take a shower. Use a dark colored towel, because you can end up staining a light towel when you dry off. I was so embarrassed because this happened when I was at someone's house and they only had white towels.

Last, I don't know if you already know this, but you need to know. If you do get a stain and must wash it out USE COLD WATER and soap. If you use warm or hot water, blood is really hard to get out and may kind of "cook" onto the fabric. Most of the time though, I have been able to get it all out with cold water and a bit of soap.

Sorry, this was kind of long. Hope it helps though. Don't worry too much about school -- you gotta remember, you are not the only one there going through this!!!

well change your pad/tampon as often as you can, and try to be aware of when it starts, whe n you think it is wear a pad, i found out that hard that wearing a pad when you thihnk your gonna start isn't such a bad idea after all. And carrying around extra pads is a good idea too!

But just incase the event of this does happen, Cold water and tide get blood stains out best, but don't put that in the dryer, let it air dry on the line or next to a big fan.

Trust me on this one, i have not had good luck with this.

There are those pads that are specifically for night time. If you are afraid it still won't be enough, you can add an extra at the front or back, wherever you need to add protection. I always wear red underwear at this time of the month. Maybe wear red PJ's or black.

panty liners. If you use tampons, also put a panty liner on your underwear - they are very thin and comfortable and any leaking will be absorbed by this. If you don't use tampons and use pads, make sure you buy the kind with wings to keep them in place.

Also make sure you change your tampon often...this will also help prevent leaking (Leaking occurs when the tampon cannot hold anymore fluid)

at night if your flow is heavy use a tampon and a napkin.
During the day, if you change your napkin on an hourly basis you need never worry about stains. If you saturate a napkin in less than an hour, there is something wrong, and you should see a doctor about it.

I have a co-worker standing next to me saying wear a diaper.... I personally think that you should just double up. Wear a tampon and a napkin at the same time. (that's what I have to do during the heavy part of my cycle).....good luck

change pads often, use tampons w/pads. . .the key is changing often.

My friend and I used to "check" each other when I was in school. If one of us was on our period the other one would walk out behind to make sure the clothes were stainless.
