In my opinion no one has ever come close to Jimi's way of playing and no one has been as influential as he has been.. i mean come on he wrote the greatest piece of music ever.. "Machine Gun" nothing has ever come close to that.

Yes my friend, hands down. Even Rolling Stone named him the greatest ever. And yes, "Machine Gun" is pretty much untouchable.

You are completely right. Jimi revolutionized the way people looked at the guitar player. He was not just a great player, he was a personality. Go hippies. So many guitarists, great ones even have mocked his style and become famous themselves. Without Hendrix the world of rock guitar would be much different.

Hendrix was the best but Joe Perry comes close, and when Stevie Ray Vaughn did "Voodoo Child", it was very hard to tell that it wasn't Jimi.

No doubt Jimi was good but I think Alex Lifeson of Rush is the best. He has a much cleaner sound than Hendrix, imho.

Still, Jimi was good. It's a shame he's gone.

I saw Hendrix perform live in the 60's...He and the quitar were like one person on the stage. I was mesmerized by the performance....no guitarist (including Clapton) match his ability

Are you talking about his band as a whole...then influential he was/is to say the least. You should check on the unique, & original style of the Native American Metal band called NDAAZ...(i believe they have a "myspace")

He is way up there with the greats (I say WITH the greats because each great guitarist has their own style and sound that is unique and hard to compare to another)
