BY FILING A PETITION FOR EMANCIPATION OF A MINOR IN THE DISTRICT COURT.IN AUSTIN, THERE MAY BE SPECIAL COURTS THAT HEAR FAMILY LAW CASES. IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD AN ATTORNEY TO DO THIS FOR YOU, YOU COULD FIND THE NECESSARY FORM TO DO IT YOURSELF AT THE COUNTY LAW LIBRARY.

YOU MIGHT ALSO CONTACT THE UT LAW SCHOOL AND SEE IF THEY HAVE A LEGAL CLINIC THAT COULD HELP YOU.

You need to file for emancipation at the courthouse - BUT keep in mind that as long as you are under your parents you and your baby are able to be covered by their benefits usually.

Think about your baby not yourself -- you need to be able to support yourself if you are emancipated and at 16 you need to focus on education. You cannot be a good parent to that baby if you cannot provide a good life for the both of you.

Take the baby's birth certificate with you and go file for it at the courthouse. You can obtain emancipation purely by being a parent.
