You should be sick of it, They've been using this front for years and years...everytime you read the paper, they're asking for tax increases for certain educational projects. If you'll notice, they not only hit you up locally, the state does the same thing, and of course Uncle Sam has to have his for educational reform or some fancy wording. So if the Federal, State, and Local taxes are being paid, where the hell does it go? Teachers are still not paid adequately (some states), The kids are no smarter statistically. I'm not certain what the question asker meant, but don't think she thought about her question fully.

There's insufficient funds from the parents themselves to
pay for the schools. Hence, the public funds add as a major
subsidiary to aid in the construction of the schools as well as
stocking up the libraries for the kids. It's the structured system of care for the rejuvenation of society. Surely, you
would not wish that your country will be fallen into the abyss
of the Third World countries without public education.

What? One of the few nations in the world with free public schools open to all students, and you want to abolish them.
What you are advocating is education for the rich, and no education for the poor.
Let's work to improve the schools, especially in poor areas, give everyone in this country an education and a chance to go on from high school to even higher education, and rejoice in the fact that we can make this a better world for future generations.
Someday your kids will be going to school and I will gladly pay my share for their education. In the long run, it pays off to get an education and have some learning.

I'm with you there! I've been a home owner for thirty five years in the same neighborhood, I'm single with no children...retired and don't plan on a family now so....why should I pay school tax!!! It's like paying alcohol and tobacco tax if you don't drink or smoke.....tax on gas if you don't own a car or drive. Dealing with artificially inflated property assessments and taxes are enough without the rest. Now that my home has been overvalued and the tax adjusted will there be a decrease as the average median home value plummets.

Okay....one more time....you don't get to decide how your taxes are spent. You don't want to pay for public schools and I don't want to pay for tanks and guns...guess what....we both lose. I don't own a car so why should my taxes be spent on highways. Because other people own cars and it's in the best interests of society to have good roads. I've never been a victim of crime but I have to pay for a police department and i'm glad to do it. It is stupid to think that your taxes should only go to things that you use or you need.

Great idea!! We should do away with public education. Only those who can afford private schools should be allowed to have access to education. So a child is born into a poor family and is denied the right to get a education, big deal, that's not my fault.
Instead of us spending money to educate children from low income families the government should just take them and train them to be soldiers - oh wait, that will cost us more according to what we are spending per soldier right now in Iraq. We can just make them all slaves then.
Have you ever proposed this brilliant question to your state government?

Homeowners pay for schools, but so do renters through their rent. Afterall, you don't think a landlord would be eating that cost, do you?
Having said that, the property tax is a poor way to finance education. It should be financed with an income tax.
