I like to take the 'high road' and be nice to everyone just because I'm happier that way but sometimes you try to be friends with someone and it just won't "click" or they don't do their part. When do you give up?

I give up when their negativity starts to rub off on me. At that point I stop fooling with them all together. Don't let anybody drag you down with them.

I don't have any preset criteria, but I can usually size someone up fairly quickly. If I start to see patterns that demonstrate negative energy, I can move on. You can always be civil within without necessarily having to be "friendly"...focus your energy on people that truly care or are interested in who you are.

If you have tried several times then just ignore them after that...I am the same way. I try to be polite and friendly to everyone, and I hate to be snubbed.

I don't have to 'try' to be friendly, I AM friendly.
If I find we don't have similar values of ways of being I simply limit communicating with that person.

when i have done all i can to be friends with a person and they don't respond then and only then will i give up and this includes people who i may have wronged

i'm naturally outgoing...
if i say hello to someone..
and they just return it with a grunt....
done and over with..in a matter of seconds.
i won't waste my time with rude..toxic people.
