No it's not far fetched at all. Ideologues and vested interests have long recognized the power of the mass media over the population.

Just look at how little of the 9/11 conspiracy is covered and if it is it is only to 'debunk' it or to discredit those who raise it.

That said the same could be said of the 'education' (indoctraination) system.

There is a totalitarian order taking hold - the ability to think and access information for oneself is vital to ones freedom - personal , intellectual etc
