equvialent means equal. the same value but only in a different form.

thus 1/2 has the same value as 2/4 as 4/8. they are equiavalent fractions becasue they have the same value. 2/4 and 4/8 can both be reduced to 1/2.

An Equivalent Fraction is one where the ratio of the numerator to its denominator will always give you the same result or quotient.

For example : 1/2 is equivalent to 5/10
Taking their quotient, you will always get 0.5

Equivalence in mathematics:

Two equations are equivalent if they have the same solutions.

2x+y=12
is equivalent to
4x +2y = 24
