teams hold try outs once a year and they are strictly INVITATION only try outs. HOWEVER they also hold minor league tryouts in which..other than the draft-would be your best bet to try to get on to a team

in the old days yes you could walk on and try out-but more money has brought more red tape.

its not possible to just "walk on" to a major league team

i've actually gone to one invitation only try out-and obviously i didn't make the cut cuz i'm here asking yahoo questions.

There is no such thing as walking on to a MLB team. No way, no how are you just going to try directly out for a team and have them sign you to their roster the next day. Certain teams hold open tryouts every once in a while and you can go to those and they will see what you have. If you are really, really good they will possibly offer another more brutal tryout. If you do well there, you could possibly end up on an A team roster. It's not that easy. Trust me. I've been there.

If you were so good as to be able to walk on, try out, and make a team, then you would have been "discovered" long ago. Teams invite players to spring training to try out, so it is not necessary to go through the draft first.

Chow!!

Yes, it's possible. Teams have tryouts from time to time. I know that Philadelphia do it every year. Of course you'd have to have talent to make it but yes, it can happen. A lot of teams do it by invitation only but some open it up to the public.
