Greg Maddux (never had overpowering stuff, actually pitched, with fantastic command. played in the steroids era and made them look silly
Roger Clemens
Walter Johnson
Cy Young
Satchel Paige
Warren Spahn
Bob Gibson
Nolan Ryan

My top 10 starters tough to say "Who is better?" Since they are from different eras:

Walter Johnson
Christy Matthewson
Cy Young
Sandy Koufax
Bob Gibson
Tom Seaver
Steve Carlton
Jim Palmer
Roger Clemens
Pedro Martinez

Top 10 relievers (not in order)

Rich Gossage
Dennis Eckersley
Bruce Sutter
Rollie Fingers
Lee Smith
Mariano Rivera
Trevor Hoffman
John Franco
Dan Quissenberry
Hoyt Wilhelm

EDIT: Agreed - Nolan Ryan should not be mentioned. Great strikeout pitcher, also walked a ton. Reached 300 wins due to longevity as the Ranger's sideshow. Still a great pitcher, but not in my top 10.

Walter Johnson 2nd in wins 414
Nolan Ryan 7 no hitters and career strikeout king
Warren Spahn 363 wins - most by a left handed pitcher
Steve Carlton for now most strikeouts for a left handed pitcher in a lifetime .
Bob Feller 3 no hitters and 11 one hitters
Roger Clemens almost 5000 k's and nearly 350 wins which will be in the top 10 lifetime
Ed Walsh # 1 lifetime ERA by IP with 1.82 ERA
Greg Maddox; Christy Mathewson and Grover Cleveland Alexander 374 373 and 336 wins and counting you have to do something right to win that much

4) Bob Gibson
5) Cy Young
6) Christy Mathewson
7) Tom Seaver
8) Warren Spahn
9) Bob Feller

I'm pleasantly surpised that noone has said Nolan Ryan yet. Usually people talk about him in the discussion of greatest pitcher ever, until you show them his stats.

ON EDIT: Looks like someone DID mention Ryan, and I was beaten to calling him out on it.

In no particular order:

Cy Young
Walter Johnson
Christy Mathewson
Roger Clemens
Warren Spahn
Pete Alexander
Greg Maddux
Tom Seaver
Lefty Grove
Steve Carlton

I don't see how in the world anyone can include Nolan Ryan. Sure he's the strikeout king, but he's also the king of walks and his peripherals don't blow anybody away.

Whether or not Ryan should be on the list, you can't dismiss his win total as a product of longevity. He was a GREAT pitcher, and had he been on some better teams its not unreasonable to say he could have approached 400 wins.
