We have a cell phone for our 9-year-old that only gets used for very specific reasons. If she is with us, at school or with her grand parents, she doesn't need it. If we take her to Disneyland or some place where we might become separated, she will have it for emergency use. However, the is no reason that needs a cell phone on a day to day basis. I can see where a teenager with a license should have one...beyond that, I see no reason that someone "needs" a cell phone before the age of 16.

Depends on the type situation in which a child is living. I hate to say this but cell phones with cameras are the next thing to catch people in the act of doing harmful and illegal things when other tactics don't work.

Children don't need cell phones, they should not be in situations where they will need cell phones. You shouldn't get a cell phone until highschool, when else would you really need it? If you want to talk to your friends wait to use the home phone!

my children each had one at 8 years old, they went to school that was quite far away from home. they could use them if they ever missed the bus or had an emergency. as long as they didnt abuse the privilage, they got to keep them. they are responsible teenage users now. like them or not, they are great, from a parents point of view. the peace of mind and security is great
