how is using laptops going to be a potential risk for users?

well alien spaceships can detect the radio waves coming out of the laptop, they may zap you.. hahahaha!

It is not.


You have the EMI 30 MHz to 2 GHz frequencies. This is covered by the FCC. You will probably get more from a CRT based TV.

You have 802.11 at 2.4 GHz. This is probably about the same as a cordless phone.

If you have WLAN, then you have a cell phone in the laptop. Same radiation as a cell phone (surprise surprise!)

There is significant radiation in the 400nm to 700nm range. But that is a good thing as it is the light coming from the screen.

You will also get some heat. Not enough to cause any damage though.

If microwave ovens havent killed us yet, I hardly think a laptop will. Just about every appliance or cell phone we use has a small form of radiation.
