It's a strange injury I have. One minute it hurts bad and I limp in pain, the next it it totally fine. there is no swelling or discoloring. What set it off this time was a simple run on a tread mill. But I've had the same pain there off and on for some years. All I can imagine the original souse to be is too much skate boarding as a youth or possible it was a reaction to a year in which I avoided using it because of a fractured bone in the foot.

This could be soft tissue reactions from the previous fracture and over use of the muscles. If you haven't ran on a treadmill before or in a long time, this could be what triggered the reaction. I recommend you see your medical doctor to find out exactly what is going on. It's better to have something looked at by a professional been trying to guess.

Sounds like you have built up scar tissue in your ankle from the past injury... with this, an injection could possibly help the inflammation you experience from running, or you may need further intervention like an ankle arthroscopy to "clean out" all the old scarring. See a Podiatrist that specializes in the foot and ankle to get good results.

you should have it checked out by the doctor......... my foot would be fine sometimes too and then hurt to walk on and hard to walk up slopes at time..... I had an xray and he couldnt find anything and made me wear a foot splint type boot and come back in 4 weeks ,,well it didnt get better and I had an MRI to find out I had a tear in achillies tendon...... I had it operated on after about 8 weeks recovery..the pain is totally gone........I wouldnt have guess it as being my achillies because all the pain was in my foot...and ankle......... good luck!!

i have similar symptoms...especially when i run...i've played soccer for most of my life, and broke and sprained my ankles several times...it could be that you streched your ligaments and never let them fully heal. When that happens it's easy for them to become inflammed after a work out or something. Your best bet would be to check with a sports physician.

Hope that helps.

Do you have flat feet? I do, and often experience the same kind of pain in one of my ankles.
