It is usually 1 year suspension and jail is possible but only the judge could make that decision. California is cracking down so hopefully she has had a clean history so far and the judge will have leniency on her.

If you have access to a computer, go to the DMV website and look it up. Or, go to the web-site of your local police. They might have it there. I'm pretty sure you get put in jail, but I don't know how long. I don't know the WHY regarding your license suspension... but I can't resist the need to say this: if you had so many important places to go, and need your car THAT bad, you should have been on top of your game in the first place and thought of that before you did whatever it was you did that caused your license to be suspended. Don't compound it now with another stupid decision that could land you in jail or having to pay a grip of money in fines for violating the law. As for your car being towed, I think that's a municipality thing... so, LA may be different than SF... you should look into that yourself. Whatever the case, good luck.... and buy a bus pass.

I don't know about the law there, but your friend made a stupid decision. Here we get a mandatory year suspension on top of the DUI charges. I've heard California is much more strict when it comes to DUI's so I would assume they are stricter about the punishments of getting caught with a suspended license. Tell your friend to kiss her license goodbye for quite some time.

Well....If she's stupid enough to drive on a suspended license, not to mention with a DUI...she should go to jail, for atleast 45 days or so...didn't we see all this on the news with Paris Hilton...first of all....DUI is STUPID and your friends is irresponsible and immature and shouldn't be driving in the first place.

She probly got off lite. Now the court will throw the maximum fines and penalties at them. May even have jail time. Better get an attorney, and be ready to pay very big fines and attorney cost and if luck not get thrown in jail. No license, insurance companies wont pay if she is in a wreak, putting herself and others in a damaging situation. Dealt with very seriously. Got caught being irresponsible in a DUI, now now being responsible by no insurance and license. Maybe you can send her goodie bags in jail...

How about a permanently revoked license and jail time?
There are too many idiots getting off lightly for something as tragic and stupid as drunk driving. There is ZERO excuse for getting behind the wheel whether it's one drink or six. NONE. People like your friend should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Great example of what happens when you drive under the influence:
A 19-year-old here in Las Vegas was drunk with double the BAC on Cinco de Mayo weekend. He slammed into an SUV and killed FOUR children and ONE adult. Thankfully, this man will more than likely spend the rest of his life behind bars.
Too many people are injured or killed due to poor judgment and irresponsibility. Enough is enough.

Well from what happend to my dad 15 yrs ago, he had to attend AA, do community service picking up trash on the side of the road, resitution and lawyer fees, and spent i think some time in jail or it was probation.
but that was just for the DUI.
Your friend could look for something like that, as well as having his licence suspended even longer.

In my state I got jail time but it was house arrest-" ankle bracelet monitoring" + license revocation for 1 year, after which you have to get a license from scratch-retake the test. It's highly unlikely they'll waste overcrowded jailspace on first offense.
