I don't think you are stupid at all. Heredity is everything in my family. My family line carries an unbroken line of witches (not wiccans thank you very much). My celtic beliefs do not interfere with my Christianity, either. I am not sure what 'stuff' you are talking about, but I also have psychic abilities. I am able to see spirits and communicate with them. I have an uncanny (my mother called it 'awful') talent with the tarot cards, and I believe that crystals resonate for a reason (healing). Hope that answers your question.

You are not stupid at all and it's a good question. But, it's not a question of believing in witches, honey. I am a Pagan and a witch, and there are lots of others right here on Answers and all over. Wicca is a religion just like any other - well, not like any other, because we believe that everyone has a right to their own mind and beliefs, unlike a lot of other religions.

As far as fairies go, well, I haven't seen one lately, but I bet they're there if you look fast enough. ;-)

I don't personally believe in them myself, but there are those who definately do. I won't rule out the possibility entirely though. I've heard it said that "truth is stranger than fiction". There certainly are those who practice different faiths/crafts that are called witchcraft and consider themselves to be witches. What qualifies one to be a fairy is a bit more mysterious to me and/or exactly what they are, if indeed they do exist. Fairies are certainly enchanting. Most beliefs (theories) regarding these things are based in ancient folklore & old wise-tales as well as long ago customs & beliefs of people from civilizations all over the world in an effort to explain things that were not truly understood quite clearly by them. There is a certain fascination & allure to believing in such things, and many people "choose" to believe in them because of the wonder & mystery of it all- which is OK, as long as you don't get carried away.

Witches, yes they do exist, but they are modern day witches, not the ones from the storybooks. Now as far as the storybook witches, I like to believe they were around at one point in time. But I do believe that witches whether they resembled more of our modern witches or the storybook witches have always existed.
Now for fairies, I love fairies, would love to find a fairy ring. But I've always felt like they wouldn't be in America, you have to go to Europe for them... Now whether fairies really exist or if they're just a mythological being, the idea of them exist and I'm happy with that.

I think the legends have a basis in fact. "Witch" was the name the Catholic Church gave to "Wiccans" in the middle ages. Because they taught things that were contrary to church doctrine, the church persecuted them, and emphasized any negative qualities about them--the wart, bad complexion, etc. Night-time creatures, like bats, became associated with them.
As for fairies, I think they were based on earlier, smaller people that lived in England before even the Celts came over. The Picts were definitely there earlier, and even now there are areas where the people are shorter. They may be based on the people who lived there at the time Stonehenge was built, around 2500 B.C.

I believe in witches (I happen to be one). It is a state of being, a lifestyle, one that has absolutely NOTHING to do with magic and spells and everything to do with gaining knowledge and understanding from the world around us. Those of you who say "I'm wiccan so I'm a witch" you need to study into your religion a bit more. Being a witch certainly does not make you wiccan and being wiccan by no means makes you a witch. The two are separate choices, and are NOT interchangable. Don't get me wrong, through the aquisition of knowledge and understanding, a person can do some pretty amazing things that most would consider to be "magic" (I watched my brother in law hover about 5 inches off the beach one afternoon during one of our meditations). But its all about knowing what is and is not impossible.
As for faeries, I believe in them. Proof is subjective, as is truth, so I will only say that I've had enough experience that I can do nothing less than believe. But I don't expect anyone else to believe in them or recognize their existance. Nor will I explain my experiences to someone who does not believe (with no desire to find out).
EDIT: Kelly - Witch was not the name given to wiccans in the middle ages. There are two very simple reasons for this. First (and for most) Wicca DID NOT EXIST in the middle ages. It wasn't founded until the 1950s. Second - the traditional meaning of the word "witch" is Wise one, or learned sage. It was used to refer to the "medicine woman" of a village. The one who always knew what to do to take care of the villagers.

Yes
Witches belong to pagan or wiccan (or other) religions and as a whole worship nature and varying gods/goddesses. Witches do NOT believe in or worship Satan. That's a purely christian belief system.
Fairies have been seen and experienced by many.
Google witchcraft, wicca, and fairy...you'll be amazed.
And FYI...the practice of witchcraft and worship of gods/goddesses has been around thousands of years longer than any christian religion.

Speaking in terms of adults, I have known self-professed witches, both good and bad. I have also known people that believe that they have SEEN faeries.
Now, I try to be objective about things. You can let your imagination get the best of you.
