OMG! Some coworkers of mine were talking about this earlier. I feel that Americans in general are not outraged by price gouging anymore because no matter how much we protest and complain and vote, the gov't and business industry will always have each other's back while consumers have to fend for ourselves. They get taxbreaks for everything and a slap on the wrist when they break the law. BUT, let one of us do it and we go to prison for a while, come out jobless, broke and have no hope.

Look at the price of gas alone. I do not think that 41 cents to send something across the country is too bad. If you disagree check with UPS they will charge you at least $3.00 to go the same distance. The employees of the Post Office also have benefits, and get raises just like you and I so somebody has to pay for it.

I would still use the Post Office if stamps cost double that amount. Dude, it's a capitalist economy. If something, anything, costs more than you think is fair, STOP PAYING! You don't have to buy one single stamp more for the rest of your life. Nobody's holding a gun to your head.

By the way, "crying wolf" means raising a false alarm -- warning people about a danger that doesn't exit. It comes from the following story:

There once was a shepherd boy who was bored as he sat on the hillside watching the village sheep. To amuse himself he took a great breath and sang out, "Wolf! Wolf! The Wolf is chasing the sheep!"

The villagers came running up the hill to help the boy drive the wolf away. But when they arrived at the top of the hill, they found no wolf. The boy laughed at the sight of their angry faces.

"Don't cry 'wolf', shepherd boy," said the villagers, "when there's no wolf!" They went grumbling back down the hill.

Later, the boy sang out again, "Wolf! Wolf! The wolf is chasing the sheep!" To his naughty delight, he watched the villagers run up the hill to help him drive the wolf away.

When the villagers saw no wolf they sternly said, "Save your frightened song for when there is really something wrong! Don't cry 'wolf' when there is NO wolf!"

But the boy just grinned and watched them go grumbling down the hill once more.

Later, he saw a REAL wolf prowling about his flock. Alarmed, he leaped to his feet and sang out as loudly as he could, "Wolf! Wolf!"

But the villagers thought he was trying to fool them again, and so they didn't come.

At sunset, everyone wondered why the shepherd boy hadn't returned to the village with their sheep. They went up the hill to find the boy. They found him weeping.

"There really was a wolf here! The flock has scattered! I cried out, "Wolf!" Why didn't you come?"

An old man tried to comfort the boy as they walked back to the village.

"We'll help you look for the lost sheep in the morning," he said, putting his arm around the youth, "Nobody believes a liar...even when he is telling the truth!"

First of all, think about how much business the post office has lost due to email....then think about how much bussiness they have gained from internet bussinesses shipping items to people shopping from home. i think that the whole lost/gained business thing is a wash...

41 Cents to mail a envelope that it would probably cost you at least 41 Cents, just to go start your car to go deliver it yourself.
Stop complaining. Think about what you are complaining about.
There's nothing too unreasonable about the postal rate increase.

For those of you who think that the Postal service is run by the government, you need to get a clue. They are not. The governmet does not set to postage rates.
If they did, we would really have something to complain about, plus we may never get our mail.

With the rising cost of gas and the continued use of e-mail the post office has to raise their prices. But I run a business that mails packages constantly and it really increased my costs. Especially for Priority Mail. I think they increased a bit to much personally...

If we are not marching in the streets over high taxes, gas prices, Patriot Act, the war, truth in media, treatment of WTC first responders and Katrina victims and many other things, what makes you think a 2 cent postage hike will get people to move off their apathetic azzes?

What should be stopped is the gas prices going thur the roof. 2cents . I wish that is all gas prices had went up.
Could you drive to where your bill is due for 41 cents.
Get the gas prices down and maybe the postal stamps would not have went up.

I sent a letter yesterday--41 cents to take my letter from my house to my sister’s house, which is 800 miles away…personally, I think that's a bargain.
