I think you have to use equal or less force to get away with self defense. I not 100% positive though. I would still shoot someone who was coming after me with a machete.

Laws of the states vary. You may have to show that the attacker's intention was to physically maim you in a way to cause potential death. If by change he only meant to injure you, and you kill him, you would be suffering the agony of trial to prove your self-defense. And there's always the chance of being civilly sued by the attacker's family.

If you feel that your life is in danger and they are trying to kill you then it would be self defense.

Probably not, i'm a wuss! Even in self defense, if i killed it would probably be on accident. I don't think i could conciously pull the trigger, dig the knife in, anything like that. I'm such a wuss!
