I had one climb UP my leg, sit in my lap, grab a chunk of my dinner, smile at me (or was that a SNARL?), then scamper off again. This was while I was out picnicking outside my tent in Texas. BIZARRE! Scared me, but made me laugh, too.

Raccoons don't typically attack people. It happens though to wildlife officials and rehabbers who come in contact with them on a regular basis, and it doesn't happen too often.
It would definitely not be a pleasant experience.
