You make a good point. With Tony leaving there may be fear that the relationship between G. Britain and the USA may break down. The Queen's visit could have been a step to assure the USA that the countries are still very close allies. If this was a major reason for her trip here then it was a very smart move.

The queen was in America for the Kentucky Derby. Tony Blair had announced his plan to step down several months ago.
