No, since grandparents have legal custody, dont understand why. The child doesnt have to go with either parent if they dont really want to and thats usually why this request is usually asked. A parent cannot be totally disowned, only a parents legal rights to a child can be severed and the courts wont usually grant that unless there is a matter of life and death.

If the grandparents have custody...there is no legal cause to emacipate from either parent.

To "divorce" a parent means to stop having them support the child and the child will live somewhere else legallyas an adult. The child is already living somewhere else - but as a minor.

If the child chooses not to associate with one of the parents, that is a choice, but it isn't going to be supported by a court order in any state.
