My brother complains about the smell...(it does stink so bad, thank god I am not living there) My dad tries to use glade all over the house, but just smells like he is covering up the smell, and it still stinks. He does not take the dog to the groomers when he is suppose to, and never receives a bath. The dog has tumors all over his body. My brother wants to get rid of him, and my sister thinks it is not moral to do that because he would be put to sleep. She wants my dad to take it to the groomers but my dad will not do any of the above. The dog sleeps by my dad's bed, and you can tell because it stinks, and is actually a different color . I visit them from time to time, but I can't stand the smell. What would you do if you were in this situation? They have had the dog since 1997,and the dog is a Keyshound (sp). I no longer live in the house and did not even like the dog ever since he came to the house. My brother picked him out when he was a little boy.

I am not much of a pet person because of the hair, and the fact that they stink.

you guys are really emontional about this.....you guys must be pro-life, because if you were pro-choice you value dog life over human life.

No, the dog should not be "gotten rid of."

Dogs don't normally stink. Dad may not do any of the above, but someone should. First the dog needs to be brushed, combed and bathed, which can be done at home. He then needs a trip to the vet. If they are indeed tumors and not just matted hair (which is very painful, by the way), the vet can make any further recommendations as to the dogs health.

Bottom line, someone needs to be a grown up here...take the dog and make it healthy. I guarantee you that the dog is miserable.

Edit - pro-life has nothing to do with it. It's called RESPONSIBILITY.

If the dog is in pain and is not being treated humanely he needs to be put to sleep. Could a family member take the dog to a vet for an eval and a bath? Why doesn't someone in the family bathe the dog? It is cruelty to the dog to leave him in that shape.. If it were my Dad I would take the dog to the vet and see what they say first off. And have the vet bathe the dog, a groomer may not want to work with a tumor ridden dog.

assuming these are cancerous tumors, this is probably the cause of the smell especially if any of them are open or draining.cancer does have an odor.believe it or not, even in people.the animal may be hurting so bad that it cannot clean itself properly. putting a suffering animal ,that your dad claims to love and i am sure after 11 years, that he does love it, is humane.if you cannot convince dad of this and let dad be the one who puts him to sleep i would just wait it out because it sounds like the animal is in bad shape and will die soon anyway given the age and the tumors. groomers i doubt will help.why cant you and your brother bathe the dog.just wondering.

You have to come up with a better solution then that. I have a stinky pets too, but that doesn't mean the first thought that pops into my head is to kill them. Try to take your dog to the vet and make sure it isn't any other underlying illness, if not that then try to give him a really good hot bath or something, but don't just put euthanize(probably spelt that wrong) him.

JUST because he's a dog and NOT a person doesn't mean you can give him away or kill him. It's another person and apart of your family. Conisder that when you smell his stink. Treat pets (even if your not a pet person) like you would your brother or your father or mother. Good luck, to your dog!

no, it's YA'LLS fault that he stinks. take him to the vet-since he's old, something may be wrong with him. GIVE HIM A DADGUM BATH! geez....poor dog. people like you and your family should not be allowed to own one. now is when you should be taking the best care of your dog. i hope no one gives you a bath when you're older and say you stink so they want to get 'rid' of you.

if your dad doesn't give the poor thing a bath why won't someone else do it, that's mean to do to the dog - just give the thing a bath and take it to the Vet

Somebody should bathe him. If Dad isn't able then one of you should. He obviously loves that dog and it would be cruel to take it away from him, esp if they sleep together.

I think a shower or three would suffice...tell your dad to stop being such a cheapskate and take him to the groomers...

Well... rather than getting rid of the poor dog they should try PROPERLY GROOMING HIM. It does wonders, really. Especially now that they have fruit and vanilla scented dog shampoo.
