Actually, it's 12 million illegal aliens, not necessarily Mexicans--you sound racist when you generalize the problem. Additionally, the whole amnesty idea was originally proposed by Bush, although it may be supported by more Democrats than Republicans. Finally, given the razor thin majority in the Senate on this contentious issue, they may have to put provisions in any bill that gets passed relating to increased border security.

Well, I'm a dem and I feel the same way. However, Reagan didn't do such a great job on that either. At some point, I was hoping for somebody to take care of the U.S. first, but I guess that is hopeless. Our government seems somehow to be repulsed by its own citizens on both sides of the aisle.
The government appears to be dumbing us down, sending our jobs out of the country, giving those that remain to non-citizens, and charging us three times what anybody else has to pay for many things. The result of that is not very promising for our future.

You know, this wouldn't even be a question if it weren't for the Pandora's Box Karl Rove opened when he made this a hot-button issue to get Republicans elected in the off-year of 2002. Demagoguery in its rawest. It brought the xenophobes out of the woodwork. Look, there were always Mexicans coming and going, legal and illegal, and should always be. Entire US industries depend on them. It was never a problem before. Some were caught and deported, most probably weren't. Was it ever a problem for you or anyone you know? This sounds like when Ronald Reagan gave amnesty to millions of illegals and didn't even fine them like the Democrats want to do. If we secure our borders as we should be there should be no issue in the future.
