No matter who wrote it, it hits the nail on the head. There are many people who will read something like that and grumble and complain that it's nonsense and it has nothing to do with anything.

But, only those who are happiest when they are miserable will see it that way. The rest of us will read this and say, "Yeah, you know that's right. We have more today than at any time in history. We're safe, we're free so I'm choosing to be happy about it".

This is the greatest nation on earth and you can look to our south and find Mexico which has hardly any of the great things mentioned like running water or even a transportation system . Ah but look to the north and across the ocean and you find people who have all the things you mentioned and more . Some are more free and some less some have three times the amount of vacation time and some about the same . The one thing they all have is something we do not and thats a constitution which grants us the right to be free . We lost that freedom in a little thing called the Patriot act . People in this country have lost the right to a trial . You may think this nothing , however I see a trend towards Fascism and Bush and the republicans leading the way and blazing the trail for ever more government controls over the people and more power in the hands of one man then in those of the people . I agree , no one in this country has the right to complain that we are not a nation of haves and have a lots compared to the rest of the world . Yet we are losing the most important thing and that is our freedoms . Wake up and forget what you have been told and actually read some of the laws that have been passed . Look at how this government recently decided to destroy the evidence of torture . Yet they do not call it torture . McCain calls it torture and thats good enough for me . SO before you begin chastising Americans for being just slightly unhappy you might want to take a serious look at whats been going on now for 40 years . How corporations and men like Romney have profited and lined their pockets with the blood and sweat of the American workers and service people who should defend us from invaders and are not just another tool for the military industrial complex to exploit . Trillions of dollars have been spent on defense and more weapons of mass destruction have been sold by this country around the world then I care to admit as a citizen . Its been criminal what has gone on in our name and it needs to end . So wake up do some investigation and you can start with Nixon and Kissinger caused the destruction of a once peaceful nation known as Cambodia . How we armed Saddam and Bin laden and that the majority of HiJackers came from Saudi Arabia .

You may have the best parents in the world, that bought you everything you ever needed since you were a child. Loved you, offered you comfort, security, a future. You have the perfect life. And then you realize that your parents cheated on each other ... or your dad's money comes from scams or lies or mob affiliated. Now how would you feel? if you are a selfish egocentric ignorant looser you won't give a crap ... if you are a hard working intelligent person you would be devastated for you had invested all your hopes and love in those two. The American people ARE that child who has been robbed, lied to, manipulated behind false truth and make belief. THAT is what the 2/3 are fed up with. You can bring as much happiness and sunshine in ones life, if it is fake or from a rotten source, it is worthless.
On that instance, Jay Leno can talk ... he has a secured job that pays him millions, he is set for at least 2 or 3 generations after him, he CAN afford health insurance, a safe brand new car, a home paid off the day he signs the contract, He doesn't have credit card debts, or medical bills up to the ceiling and if he gets fired he gets hired in the very next hour. I love when words of comfort come from someone who simply has it all.

It all fairness... JAY LENO DID NOT WRITE THIS ...
WHY DO YOU START YOUR POST OFF SAYING HE DID...
IT ISN'T NECESSARY..
SO YOU ARE ALREADY MAKING YOURSELF and Conservatives LOOK BAD ...
And You are Giving AMMO to Liberals Who Take Notes on
How Conservatives are close minded and Try to Spin and Sensationalize things.....

To be more accurate...
67 to 69 percent did Not say they were unhappy with all the blessings that you listed.... ( plus, think it through... Bush didn't create the concept of public fire and police departments, grocery stores... etc. )
The poll is very specific about what the vast majority are unhappy with.
They are specifically unhappy with the administration and the direction that the country is going in which also has a direct correlation to the current war the U.S. finds itself bogged down in.

Just because americans are grateful for certain blessings that this country offers ... Does that mean they are to keep their mouths shut and not question where the country is headed? Does that mean Americans are not allowed to be discontent when American soldiers lives are being destroyed as the American military is being used as the police force to the world..... ?
Does that mean we shouldn't ask why the adminstration spending billions abroad to fight "terror" when the U.S. border has been somewhat wide open for quite a while.?
Couldn't have all those billions built a stronger internal America and a sizeable, sturdy wall along the border?

Below is the link for a well made documentary.
Great comments by current and retired military personnel. This is important especially for those of us who have served or who are serving and also those of you with children as someday we may see a draft reinstated and we should all be clear on what we are fighting for.

Democrats and Repubs should lay down party politics and get serious about doing the right thing so that the country’s citizens and the country’s soldiers are not put in harms way unnecessarily. Very well made documentary and a little hard to want to face.

Anyone who has paid attention to Jay Leno should not be surprised at this. He is a dyed in the wool rightie if there ever was one. He makes some good points and some I don't agree with. We are spoiled rotten. I wouldn't want it any other way. However we are also the most generous people on earth. We are among the most diverse population on earth having opened our doors to people from all over the world. We are far more tolerant than most countries as well. Yes, he is right we should thank God or god(s) that we are what we are and enjoy it, hold on to it as we could lose it.

The last paragraph is attributed to Jay Leno and it was intended as an ironic joke, not to be taken seriously. The rest is from some other author or authors and then attributed to Leno. It is uban myth as the above 2 posters had already stated.

The sad part is your zeal to defame Blue State residents places you at risk.

Let's revisit Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things doth the Lord Hate.

Sad but true God hates people that lie to deceive others. Sure I saw the double >>'s on each line I know you got this third hand. But you chose to further propagate the lie on YA.

Life could be easier for you if you stopped bring curses down on both you and your family. Love truth Love Peace Love your neighbor as yourself.

If you're in a Maserati doing 185 and mounted a hill and saw that a dynamite truck had blown the road away, would you:
a. Be thrilled that you owned such a nice car.
b.Be unhappy with the direction the car was going.

I don't need anyone-Jay Leno, Media, or politicians-to tell me how I feel.
Happiness is an emotion.
If I don't feel it, I just don't. I question the reasons why and I come up with this:

People dying unnecessarily- AIDS, war, poverty, hunger, cancer.
People living in squalor in the US
Children not getting the proper education in the US and the world
People not getting the medical treatment they deserve in the US and around the world.
The city of New Orleans not being rebuilt because of a corrupt government.
Oil companies making $7 billion dollar in the 1st quarter.

And then it gets too personal.
