I just don't understand this at all.

You can buy a 2 GB kit of DDR2 SDRAM memory cheaper than you can 2 GB of PC 133 SDRAM. I just did.....buy the DDR2 that is....

This is ridulous.......9 year old memory technology is more expensive than today's memory......is today's memory less durable or is it supply and demand or what?

I don't get it....I have one 2000 and one 2001 model desktop and I was shopping for upgrading memory for them and found this to be the fact.

Just as I finally figured.....Supply and Demand.

I agree with everyone - new technologies (once mainstream and popular) drive the price down while old technologies get less buyers and get more expensive.

The good news is that while everybody is upgrading to DDR2, many of them are selling off their old DDR266, DDR333 and DDR400. I bought a 2GB pair of DDR400 on eBay for a great price and upgraded my "old" Athlon64 computer for less than the RAM ever sold for new. I sell 512MB sticks of DDR266 on eBay for only about $15 per stick - you buy and install 4 of those and for $60 you have 2GB!!

Good Luck

That is b'coz most of the compatible peripherals with older DIMM slots have no more been manufactured b'coz of the newer technologies. This has brought down the sales of these Memory Chips, also they are less efficient than the DDR2 RAMS.
So there is less manufacturing, hence less availability & so more hard work to find them & so the higher rates.

I hope I've helped You.

The reason is supply and demand, today's computers are RAM hungry so the manufacturers produce Lots (resulting in lower costs) With PC133 they have a captive audience, and produce less resulting in higher costs !

Supply and demand.

Low demand for an old product pushes up the price.

Yes.... supply and demand. The problem is, they stop manufacturing the old type of RAM thus have less supply.

Nothing to do with windows ME all to do with your mother board. The computer i am doing this with is on windows ME with a 1gb of Kingston RAM PC3200 DDR. Gigabyte Motherboard has three slots but will only handle 1.5 gb of memeroy. If I install two 1gb memory dimms it will not work. It will work with three 512 mb dimms. Motherboard is the deciding factor with what RAM you can use.
