there are a couple of posibilities. lets start with the most likely. The coolant level sending unit. They as other parts in your car become contaminated (assuming regular water was used at one point) these contaminats build up on the slide of most sending unit. let me explain in a more detail. the sending unit is essentially a float. with the contamination the float will get stuck and not rise when coolant is added thus giving an incorrect reading to the sending unit.and your indicator. of course the second may be a bad sending unit itself. they are relatively simple to change usually a plug and seal. the third may be some sort of short in the system which will require a technician to diagnose. hope this helped some and good luck

ok, now for my 2 Cents. The thermostat does not administration the gages as somebody else reported. It controls the temperature of the water interior the cooling gadget. i don't recommend flushing the coolant gadget your self. in particular because of the fact it fairly is a discomfort interior the butt, and, what is going to you do with the previous coolant and flush stuff? it fairly is a danger that your thermostat isn't commencing each and every of how. it is likewise a danger that your radiator is starting to be plugged. There are different issues like, belts, water pump, head gasket, cooling fan not working., etc.

these have a sensor that either mounts in the upper part of the radiator or on the coolant reservoir, and it does go bad once in a while, and causes this to happen, sometimes it will just get dirty on the end of it and cause it to trip the light, you can clean it or replace it,i usually just replace it and be done with it,its a cheap part ,and easy to change out,but that's usually the cause of that ,good luck with it hope this helps.

Did you open the radiator and check the level in there. If you have a reservoir that you checked the level in, the radiator can also be low.
