My car's steering wheel is torn in the middle and the airbag will not work if I am in an accident. If I buy another steering at a salvage place and replace it will the airbag in the new steering wheel work?

Just because the steering wheel is torn in the middle, that doesn't necessarily mean that the airbag won't deploy when needed. If you have a light on the airbag display then there is a problem. You can change the steering wheel and use the old airbag, if it is still good. That would be a lot cheaper than buying a different airbag and wheel assembly from a salvage yard. good luck

As long as it's from the same type/year of car, yes it should work just fine providing you hook everything up correctly. Make sure you keep the receipts of it if you get it installed someplace, and wherever you originally bought it from. This is just in case you do get into an accident and it doesn't deploy, you can sue for faulty equipment.

Another thing I was just thinking about is that your airbag sensors in the front may have been smashed up pretty good too since somebody did hit something hard enough to do some serious damage and have the airbags deploy. I would have somebody check them as well just to make sure I'm as safe as possible when I'm driving. :)

If you replace the steering wheel, it SHOULD, (required by law) have a new one in it. Or at least one that has not been deployed. Contact the manufacture. If it was a Ford, check with a Ford dealership. etc. I learned this the hard way, buying a very nice, but totaled vehicle. It was refurbished, but the air bag was deployed and when they replaced the steering wheel, they did NOT hook up the air bag. I am now fighting with car lot to remedy this issue. It is a law in most states.

If the air bag light is on the air bag will not deploy. If you change the steering wheel, make sure that it is from the same year, make and model auto.
