Fenway Park is an extremely difficult park to get tickets to. My friend and I have already been to the same game this year and didnt know we were there at the same time. Now we're both going again, on the same day, and neither of us knew before we got the tickets. What are the odds? Fenway Park has 38,805 seats and 82 home games this season. Someone out there has got to be able to calculate this randomness. Thanks for all your help.

Lets put it this way, the Red Sox will play (81) home games and if you and your friend go to every one there is a 100% chance you will be at the same game. At the other end of the spectrum would be if you and your friend each only went to two games a year and you were both at the same two games. If you were both at the same game one time the odds would be 81 squared which would be (1) chance in 6,561. If you were both at the same two games and that is all you will be going to all year long it would be 6,561 squared or (1) chance in 43,046,721. Too bad we are talking about baseball games, with those odds you could have won the lottery in Rhode Island.

You leave out important information including the number of games you each go to each year total and there are many missing assumptions. The number of seats in the stadium -- and the fact that the Red Sox will always suck regardless of how good they play -- are irrelevant to the question.

Wrong board. You want to ask that on the math one. But you might want to give them the right parameters first. It's 81 home games.
