I want to know whether I need "for" before ''such a long time" in the next sentence."Sorry for making you uncomfortable by keeping them such a long time". English is my second language...Thanks for your help!!

No, it's not necessary. It's commonly used, and not incorrect to use it as such, but not necessary.
I"m sitting here trying to think of when it would be necessary to use it, and I can't. I'm sure there's some grammatical rule that perfectly describes this, but I don't know it.
So, feel free, have fun, use it if you want!

You can say:

"Sorry you had to wait for such a long while."

I think you could go either way, honestly. Both ways sound right to me.

It is not absolutely necessary, but its omission is not incorrect either. Probably more often you would hear it put in.

I think saying it either way would be ok, but it sounds better with "for".

i am not sure if there is a rule that says that you should or shouldn't...but it doesnt matter if you put the "for" or not...it is most commony heard with the "for"

I think you need the "for". It sounds better, at least.
