In my opinion, Scholes would give England more attacking options and Beckham is still the best in the country on the right-wing. What are your thought's???

Possible line-up:
(bearing in mind if you wanted to play defensive, drop Scholes, play Carrick. If you wanted to attack, drop Carrick, play Scholes)

Robinson

G.Neville Ferdinand Terry A.Cole

*Carrick
Beckham Gerrard Lampard J.Cole
*Scholes

Rooney

much as i like them to play for england, i don't think it's for england or their interest.. scholes is on record not returning to international football anymore... becks left the door open in rejoining england in the future... but it really depends on the manager...

at the end of the day, you want your strongest team playing...

Firstly your team is all wrong you can't play lampard and gerrard in the same team as they both play exactly the same role so drop lampard as he's had an off season this year. You can't play beckham as most of the players hate him due to his over the top contract at LA galaxy, so you could give that space to downing or wright-phillips. You need to have a player like carrick or hargreaves who will stay back and be the play maker with precision passes and allows the attacking player (gerrard as scholes wont play ill get onto that latter) to push forwards and help out the front 2. Scholes has made it clear he won't play for england again and since he has retired from international football he has played much better for man utd. So this leaves us with who to play upfront, yes you could play rooney but he tends to lose his cool and play completely different as he plays for his club. so i would choose nuegent who has been on fire along side walcott who looks like he enjoys playing for england and hes proud to unlike other players.I would also drop robinson and replace him with foster. Just look at the goalkeeping stats of the 2 of them this year.

I agree on your first statement, England need any help they can get in midfield, actually anywhere. Someone suggested Lennon and Wright-Phillips, and I totally agree with that.

I like your back four, but I'd consider placing Carragher in there for Ferdinand as a sub or second option if Ferdinand struggles defensively. Same with A. Cole, possibly a player like Barry as a second option at left full-back

Midfield looks good, Maybe even Carrick for Lampard and slot in one of the young wingers in.

Rooney could use a strike partner still. Defoe would be good, Crouch as a second option.

Scholes is good, he can even be a starter. But what can we do, he decided to resign from Three Lions.

Beckham is not young anymore, and he's too slow for a winger. He can deliver delicate crosses, razor-sharp passes, and awesome freekick, but his lack of speed may not suitable for England's style which is based on speed & power. He can be a supersub to help England in critical situations, but we should give chances to young wingers like Aaron Lennon or Shaun-Wright Philips.

Gerrard & Lampard are good, but as we have seen in World Cup 2006, pairing them in the middle is a recipe for chaos. England can play Lampard when they need goals, or get injury problem, or play second team. But I must admit your back-four is a good formula.

My starting XI for England is:

Robinson

G.Neville R.Ferdinand J.Terry A.Cole

A.Lennon/S.W.Philips S.Gerrard O.Hargreaves J.Cole

W.Rooney P.Crouch

If England want to play more attacking, they can drop Hargreaves and play Scholes (he's more attacking-minded than Gerrard, who can play more defensive).
