My husband and his mother are very manipulative and underhanded. His mother will try and get into the middle of the divorce to try and make me look bad. I need a lawyer who will stand up against them both and not believe the lies they will put out there.

Best thing to do is ask for a referral. If you can't get a referral try a search on targetlaw. Its a lawyer search engine. What you need to do is look at several different lawyer sites and make a decision based upon the information you read.

Judges dont put much into hearsay or reasons for divorce nowadays. He just concerned that both partners want the divorce and its actually in the best interest of all involved so you dont need an attorney that will stand up against them. And her opinions of you wont matter one bit in court so her inendos wont decide anything as far as the court goes. It might get her thrown out of the courroom though, when the Judge gets fed up with her. You can save money by getting a Paralegal to do your paperwork for you if you dont feel comfortable doing it yourself. The Paralegal does the lawyers work anyhow and is just as good. Good luck

Typically the best way to find a good divorce lawyer will be through a referral. Ask your friends if they have any friends who are lawyers. Make contact with them, and ask for their suggestion if their primary practice isn't divorce or family law. You might also seek to ask your divorced friends. Though they may be more inclined to steer you away from the lawyer they used if they feel cheated. Good luck to you!

Don't get one in your town, you may have to pay a little more for travel , but get one from out of town. Most lawyers all get together at the country club and other gatherings and they are friends and they talk to each other and just drag things out.
Then , they don't really service your best interest. Get someone from out of town, that the judges and lawyers do not have in their pockets.
