An account was setup online for me without my permission can and will they trace the i/p address back to the person if I request it. There was nothing done with the account or will the company just put a fraud alert on my account.

They won't trace it back on YOUR request, but they could do it at the request of a Law Enforcement agency or with a court order.

It depends on who "they" are and whether the person who set up your account did so via a proxy or not.

If you have reported this to the police, the police can trace the IP that set it up, but that is no guarantee that it will lead to the person responsible if that person utilised a proxy to commit the act.

You CAN have the company put a fraud alert on the account, and you should contact the three credit-reporting bureaus as well to have them do the same.

Report it to the isp, also the police might be interested.
