There was not a lot of uniformity in different regiments and units. The north probably had better or a more uniform clothing. Typical rifles or muskets used were Springfield 1861 rifles with a .58 caliber bore. Pistols could very. Not every soldier was issued one and many brought their own. The lucky ones had Colt 1851 .36 cal. pistols or possibly Colt 1860 Army pistol in 44 cal. Some even had Remington 1858 Army or Navy pistols in .44 or .36 caliber.
There is so much to gather, information wise, that it is really better to type in something like " Uniforms and equipment of Union Army of Confederate Army during Civil war" in your search bar.. You'll get more information that way than I could ever give.
