Well, since I no longer know who my wife is any more (she is engaged in an affair and can't stop), my guess is that everyone has some part of them that is truly not who they are.

thank god there is someone else out there who thinks this way!!! i was beginning to believe i was the only one!
i firmly believe - you don't live in their skin so you don't know who they are!
how else do victims get hooked up with creeps, abusers, murderers, swindlers etc.?
how many times have we all lost a potential good friend without even realising it because we didn't like their mannerisms? or their appearance? or they weren't in the right group at work? or they didn't make enough money? or????
my husband has a friend who is well over six foot in height, huge man, bald and gruff - he is the sweetest man who would do anything for you - but unless you took time to get past the rowdy, mean looking exterior and the gruff attitude you would never know. we all have girlfriends who are the epitome of the perfect female in appearances and yet are absolute b-itches! and we all know someone who is an extremely kind hearted, loving person who is never given a chance because they are overweight. and lets not even get started on the handicapped!
and people here, how the he!! do any of us know who we are talking to and exchanging info with? we don't! yet we come back every day looking for their thoughts and opinions and sometimes acting on them!
anyway, thanks - you have made my day with this question!
have a great day and take care!

Yes. Most of them. People are afraid to be "real" nowadays. I do know that the more real YOU are the more people will open up and just be themselves. I think its funny that most people like to appear perfect when we all know that even near perfection is a rare thing. It's social conditioning. Apparently it's more comfortable to hide behind a mask than let others know that you struggle right along with the rest of us.

Alot of things in life are not as they appear. Its not unusual for most people to portray an image other than their true self. May people have different images for whatever situation they are currently in. Employment positions demand a certain kind of image to be portrayed while situations outside the workplace demand another. Society dictates our images

Yes!!! and they could be your own relatives. You never know about anyone. Look at people who murder their own families. Or your neighbor who could be a rapist or the priest who molest our children. It is frightening who we think we know and they are not who or what they seem to be.

I am a really good judge of character, and my experience has shown me that most people have something to hide, or have to be someone more than they are. I can't find a girlfriend for that reason alone. They can't be themselves!!!

Very few people are who they seem to portray. That's why "first you try, then you trust".
