Doesnt Al Gore have a book out about this??? If so I would read up on it and get some usefull info out of it. He knows what he is talking about. I dont know much about it, but I would start out saying

Blah Blah so many years ago.....are country planet....whatever...blah blah ..........Talk about how well we use to take care of it back in the day.....and talk about NOW how we might be distoring it and what we can do to help. List facts......and try to make ppl understand that we all need to work together to get this taken care of

Good Luck

With great difficulty I would think.

Sadly the term "global warming" was very much over hyped with such outrageous claims that it was taken as nonsense. Some claimed that the sea level would rise by 30 metres. The UN says 27 inches (less than a meter in the next hundred years). There simply is not enough ice and water on earth for thirty metres!

Because the Eco warriors and climate nuts did so much to discredit the term, and because scientists also saw that climate was very much the centre of the problem they now use "Climate Change" and that is now more or less universally accepted.

So if you want to start a paper do it on Climate Change and please ensure it stays within sensible bounds, makes no outrageous claims and encourages good scientific research, open minded debate and points out the stupidity of extreme claims. If you can do that you will not just have a good paper but you will be doing great things for the planet!

One of the best ways to start a paper is to define the topic of the paper. Write a definition of global warming in your own words, look up a definition, or, what might really be interesting is to interview people asking them what global warming is, put their answers in the paper, then clarify the definition from a scientific source.

Global Warming is a controversial subject. It would be well suited for a persuasive paper or compare/contrast paper.

Persuasive:
Do you believe there is such a thing as global warming? Choose either yes or no, it doesn't matter which, and do research to support that choice.

Compare/Contrast:
Write about both sides of the issue - what the community who believes in global warming says and what the unbelieving community says.

If you firmly believe in global warming and you think everyone else does, too, then neither of the above might work for you. Instead, consider writing a paper on how to prevent global warming or what caused global warming. Narrow or broaden your topic depending on how many words you are required to write.

Good luck!

First decide your thesis - in other words, what's your paper going to be about? Suggestions:
1. Truth or Fiction? Is the science 'proving' global warming correct or b.s.?
2. Rate of warming - how warm is it getting, and how fast? How soon will the polar icecaps be melted?
3. Proof before our eyes: What has already happened that indicates global warming? For example, Inuit seashore communities that have always depended on fishing for their livelihood now have to move inland and learn new ways to feed themselves. Also, there's a small Island, I think in the Pacific Ocean but I'm not sure, that's receding into the sea as the sea level continues to rise due to global warming. It's expected not to last this century but to disappear entirely under the sea.
4. What can we as regular people do now to help prevent future global warming?

actually i think that this question should be the first sentence of your essay. How do you start a paper about global warming? it is such a widespread, national dilemma with no reasonable solution in sight. in years past, the atmosphere afforded protection to blah blah blah and then go on from here, defining the definition, the harmful effects, the damage already done and the predicted future effects.hope this helps

the best way to start any similar paper is to ask a profound, thought provoking question. ask the reader a question to spark interest and use the paper to expand and answer/support the question.

the person who said the topic is too broad is correct. focus on a specific area of global warming... the current effects of global warming on the environment, what gobal warming will do in the future, the cause of global warming, what people have done to perpetuate the problem, how we can prevent it from getting worse, etc. focus on one area and use a question pertaining to that area to open your paper.

I believe the tact of keeping it to one aspect is correct.

The most overlooked and 3rd largest source of Carbon in the Atmosphere is Slash and Burn policies in Brazil and Indonesia. It's third behind Industry in China and the U.S.

You could begin by showing photos of the smoke from space or heavy smoke in cities like Singapore hundreds of miles from the fires in Sumatra.

This is an annual event and serves only a few wealthy individuals and corporations by allowing to clear land cheaply. Their governments turn a blind eye and only pay lip service to the problem.

It would be simple for the UN to enact enforcement through economic penalties. This subject really needs a paper as there's very little recognition outside of the affected countries.

I'd start with "Is the globe really warming?"

And then I'd look at all the problems with temperature measurement methods, the fact that the supposed "warming" is actually within the confines of "noise" in the record, and that 1 or 2 degrees Kelvin out of 300 is really insignificant anyway.

PS - "Climate Change" is kinda like "Repetitive Repeating."

Start off with the media... the current controversy, the evidence being presented by scientists, the potential outcome of GW, current trends towards changing technologies to circumvent the problem, loads of other stuff... let your mind ramble for a few minutes and jot down every keyword that you think of... wont be long before you structure a great paper

It would help if you started with a brief explanation on what would happen if we didn't do anything about it, also something on the causes and finally something on what we can do. The Introduction should probably be around a fifth of your total essay.
Good luck
