if you are sick, this could play a part in your weight. some preg. moms do in fact loose weight in the beginning. also if you are already overweight, it's too late for you to worry about your weight now. you have to eat for the baby.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!

It sounds like a really bad case of morning sickness. I doubt you aren't able to eat because you are afraid of gaining weight. You have every right to be concerned. However, I want to assure you that things will get better and you and your baby are going to be fine. It is okay to lose weight a the beginning of your pregnancy, especially if you are overweight to begin with. However, you should see your doctor and tell him how you are feeling. Your baby needs food (as do you) and maybe your doctor has some advice for you. Try simple foods like plain oatmeal, whole wheat toast, saltine crackers, juice bars, applesauce, etc. Prenatal vitamins can give you an upset stomach so I would recommend taking it at bedtime with plenty of water. My children's pediatrician just went through something similar. However, she was very thin to begin with. She couldn't eat anything and had to have IV fluids throughout her pregnancy. She couldn't work and was really concerned about her baby. The good news is the baby was born very healthy and mom and child are doing well.

Hopefully the morning sickness will pass soon and you'll be able to eat healthy foods. It's normal to gain weight during pregnancy. Please focus on the beautiful baby you are creating and not worry about the weight until after your child is born. I gained 35 pounds with my first two pregnancies and 19 with my third. All 3 children were 8 pounds. I breastfed all 3 children which really does help with weight loss. With the first two I lost all the weight (and more) within 3 months (without even trying). After my third, I actually ended up 10 pounds lighter.

Try to enjoy your pregnancy and not worry about the weight. When you become a parent you will have to put your child's needs first. So although I understand that you are concerned about gaining weight, you have to make peace with the fact that you need to gain weight for the sake of your child. I really do wish you and your baby the best. Congratulations!

I'm sorry you're feeling so poorly. It is quite normal to feel too queasy to eat during early pregnancy and woman can lose weight without any ill effect to the baby. If however you are constantly vomiting/not eating anything it would be a good idea to see your doctor.

The issue about putting on weight is something you might want to address though, because when you're growing a baby you *will* put on weight, there is no avoiding it. And it won't just be the approx. 7 lbs that the baby weighs. You also have to account for the placenta, fluid and extra fat/energy reserves that a woman needs to get her through labour. If you eat a healthy, balanced diet there is no need to put on excess weight during pregnancy, but please remember that your growing baby is your priorty now over your figure! Perhaps a session with a counsellor or hypnotherapist would help you feel better about this issue.

Best of luck with your pregnancy.

You have to accept the fact that you WILL put on weight. You really should have tried to be in better shape before you got pregnant if it bothers you that much. You should expect to gain around 25 pounds...that is what they say for somone who is already overweight, for a normal weight person they gain betwee 30-40 pounds, so just eat HEALTHY. Not crap. At least you will know you gained weight from nutritious foods than from junk food, and when you are done with your pregnancy, you will have better eating habits and with some exercise you can get down to a normal weight.

Eating in the first trimester is not easy for most women because of the hormone spikes...your body is being flooded with so many hormones it upsets your stomach and effects your apetite and ability to hold food down sometimes. You are not that far along, so wait until around 12-16 weeks, your eating should return to normal. Just eat healthy small meals and drink lots of fluid, no soda pop, and limit the juice...water is best. It is normal sometimes to loose a little weight in the beginning due to "morning sickness". Get the book "Your pregnancy week by week" and also "what to expect when you're expecting" they are the best.

I was overweight when I got pregnant with my daughter and was a little worried about gaining weight too. But if it was a choice between me gaining weight or my baby being in danger if I didn't eat then I chose gaining weight. You'll have plenty of time to get the weight off when the baby is born anyway. You don't need to eat junk the whole time either. You can still eat healthily. Just relax, eat what you like and worry about it later. The health of your little one is more important anyway. Good luck xx

it can be common to lose weight in early pregnancy if you are suffering from nausea or morning sickness. but if its not for those reasons and you are not feeling sick then you need to start eating of course you can expect to put weight on during pregnancy at least two stone is the average, we all put weight on and our bodies change, for the most part irrevocably, the celebrity culture of " losing your baby fat" has a lot to answer for, those women have plastic surgery and personal trainers to thank for their new figures. i was never overweight and didn't put on too much weight during my pregnancy, i didn't get stretch marks but i still could never wear a bikini again, the quicker you accept the fact that you will put on weight the healthier you will be for your baby. look at it this way at least you have a good reason now. eat! if you feel nauseous eat bland foods and small amounts often. if you don't take care of your self you will be exhausted by the time the baby comes as you will be so run down.

i have the same problem, i am overweight too and pregnant.

Personally i had quite bad nausea with both my first pregnancy and my current one, and thats made me reluctant to eat. Its quite common to be off food especially during early pregnancy. I can imagine that additional tummy ache would make eating a problem. However, you must eat or your baby will starve, simple as that.

In fact i found that NOT eating made my nausea much much worse. In the same way, i am sure that forcing yourself to eat will help alleviate your tummy ache (probably caused by a build up of acid in your stomach).

I am afraid that the other poster was right, its too late to diet now. But you must eat healthily to avoid add ing too much weight. Cut out unnecessary sugar and fat from your diet. I am also trying to be more active to keep my weight down. Try to do some walking or light yoga or something.

yes you do need to eat for baby and if this is your 1st pregnancy, your body is just going thru a lot of changes, and that does include your apetite. If you are worried about weight gain, talk to your doctor about what to eat that will help you maintain a healthy pregnancy weight. Dont forget you can still excercise as well. It will also help with the birth. Your doctor should have all the info you need....Congrats on the baby...AND EAT!!!!

ok..first..please know that you are not the only woman to begin her pregnancy like this. You also know you have to use food to fuel your body for BOTH yourself and your growing baby. How about doing a little detective work to take your fears off your mind? Are you trying to eat something that is just not working for you in this time? I love tomatoes..but when preggy..they about killed me with gas pains ( not to meantion what people around me had to suffer through). Drink more water and milk. Watch the acids in even juices. Take control of your cravings and indulge in them very seldom. Keep your eating simple, but healthy and grease free. You know you will gain weight because other responders have been clear on this natural way of pregnancy. But you can control the gain by watching your intake and using exercise like walking everyday to keep your body supple and heart strong. If you watch your diet and do something to exercise..you can be so proud of yourself that any weight gain you get will be healthy and neccessary for your body type. Then..when your baby is here..keep up the same regime..eat healthy and take your child on your walks. It could all change for a healthier and happier you!

I was overweight too w/ my last baby.
I actually lost weight in the beginning b/c I had bad morning sickness. The whole pregnancy I only gained 16 lbs. It was ALL baby too - all 9 lbs 12 oz of her!!!
Just watch what you eat. Eat healthy and drink plenty of water. You will gain weight w/ pregnancy - you NEED to for your baby. You can always diet after pregnancy - just NOT during!!
