I did something very strange today.
I'll leave out the details, suffice to say that I over-reacted very badly and violently over a small thing in a shopping mall.

The strange thing is, I do not remember having conscious control over my reactions. For a period of about 5 minutes, I acted in a manner resulting in the police being called. I was almost like a spectator watching.

I will be seeing professionals about this, but i am curios.
What kind of symptoms are these, psychologically?

Sounds like some form of Dissociation. While there are some levels of Dissociation that are normal (like when you walk somewhere, and then suddenly you're there, and you barely remember the walk), there are some levels that cause impairment or distress. Being outside of your body looking at it do something or feeling like a robot are often associated with Depersonalization Experiences or Disorder (depending on severity). Dissociation of all forms is a primitive coping mechanism (think early or primary). If this is a one time thing, you'd do better to examine your triggers than the dissociation itself.

Lemme guess, you went off on a retail cashier over something that couldn't be returned?

While I work in retail and must side with the worker on this, since I've experienced it myself, I can say that hypertension can cause arbitrary reactions to small matters. Have you looked into this possibility?

Remember, it's just shopping. Is it worth jeopardizing a person's job, when you will simply return home and go about your usual business yourself? Just food for thought.

The Professional you meet will be glad to give you a label if that helps and it sometimes does because you will know which books to read to aid in your recovery. You know you need to see a psychiatrist or a psychologist already so wait for them to classify you and soothe your fears. There are many good doctors that can help you. But remember that they work for you, and not the other way around. Also use any medication they prescribe faithfully and give it a chance to work. Good luck. @8-)

It sounds to me like you had just had enough and snapped. I have experienced this before, where it was like an out of body experience I was so angry. I don't think you're psycho, just a little over stressed and maybe need some anger management.

Did this happen after filling your gas tank within the hour? If so it is perfectly understandable

obviously, you are losing it. Not surprising, considering your posts. Maybe the wavelength of peace took over, huh?
