I do a relaxation thing where I imagine my body becoming totally relaxed starting at the very top of my head, with the sensation traveling slowly down my entire body. It gets my mind off of things and it works every time! I almost never stay awake long enough for the sensation to reach my feet.

(I know, sounds weird but it works!)

Hmmm, I usually go through my day and what's going to happen tomorrow, like a mental diary really. Recently, I've been thinking of my cat who died (we had him for 7 years) and it's only because I'd just moved out of home again (went back for a few weeks) and he was run over the next day...I also imagine what Beijing will be like when I go there in the summer. But, if it's pre-exams then I will get very little sleep because I'm too nervous!

Some people need a distraction to avoid worrying, such as a radio or TV. I leave my television on all night at low volume and hope my subconsious is picking up something from the science channels. Some ridiculous programs such as UFO's or Ghost Hunters makes me drop right off too. I may start seeing my own UFO's any day now! @8-)

Most the time I am so tired that I don't have time to think before I go out like a light.

Those few nights I cannot sleep then I am mulling all the problems I must solve in the immediate future.

I try to clear my mind and make myself as comfortable as possible. I often listen to ocean wave music and can picture myself laying on the beach. It works every time. Also, what DJ said really works. Trying to calm and relax your body from head to toe.
