Here is a good example.
A democrat and a republican find a poor hungry person.

The democrat sees a potential vote, so he offers him a fish and tells him "If you vote for me, I'll give you fish the rest of your life." (welfare, social programs, ect.) This democrat further states that if he votes for a republican, the free fish line will end because "republicans HATE the poor.." Thus creating a voting block that NEEDS to vote democrat...

The republican sees the same poor hungry person and wants to help. The republican will give him one fish and then spend the rest of the afternoon teaching him to fish for himself. If he is hungry tomorrow, its because he chooses to be so.
A republican wants all who want to succeeded to do so, because a successful person is a happy person. That is the ultimate goal. Happy people tend to be republican. That is how republicans create more republicans..

Are you familiar with the children's story "The Little Red Hen"?

She finds some grain, plants it, harvests it, grinds it into flour and bakes some bread.

Meanwhile, her barnyard friends don't help her. Except when it comes time to eat the bread. Red votes for Republicans (that why all the news programs use the color red for Republican states).

All her friends vote for Democrats.

I hope this helps.
