How long does it take to get to London from the US (Chicago or NY) by plane or by boat?

Also, what is the cheapest way to travel to London from the US? I want to go to Sectus, a Harry Potter conference in July, but I need to travel on the cheap. Any help is much appreciated.

Don't take a boat.

1) It takes way too long. About a week.
2) This isn't 1920, so unless you are absolutely TERRIFIED of flying, a plane is much better.

Flights leave nonstop from Chicago and New York multiple times a day. From Chicago it's about an 8 hour flight; About 6 hours from NYC.

Flights nonstop from Chicago and NYC will usually start at around $450 (if you're very flexible with layovers, etc), otherwise expect to pay $600-700.

There are two major airports in London, but you'll probably want to fly into Heathrow since it'll save you some money and is easy to get to London.

London is about 6 hours from NYC and about 8 hours from Chicago. The cheapest way to get to London is by plane. However July isn't a cheap month as that is the height of summer season. You will not find many discounted flights if at all. Expect to pay a premium to fly to London.
