In the present scenario we cannot precisely pick out anyone as the best cricketer either for his batting or bowling. Performance levels differ from day to day, match to match and also from team to team(I mean the opposition). I would say that the officially ranked (by independent ranking authorities) batsmen and bowlers (upto 10) are best cricketers.

In the game of cricket,batsmen and bowler have important role to play. Hence it will be totally unfair to select a player as the best cricketer. If a batsman is selected, it will be unfair to the bowler and if a bowler is selected, it will be unfair to the batsman.
However, giving due respect to the batsmen and bowlers, I consider Ricky Ponting as the best cricketer at present taking into consideration his batting consistently well, good fielding and also good Captaincy.

At present the best cricketer in the world must be the Australian captain nicknamed the"punther" Ricky Ponting.
He has been in amazing form this world cup with an amssing total of runs.
