I'm American and have been living in Portugal for a few years now and totally love it. Most of my experience in living here, and travelling to other countries in Europe, is that if you are genuinely interested in the country and it's culture, people, etc, they get over the fact that you are American. Portugal does not hate americans as much as, say the French do, but they do hate some of the foreign policies and some of the superior attitude. But then again, no one likes a person who thinks they are superior, regardless of where they are from. Portuguese people tend to be very friendly, helpful and welcoming, unlike some of the Spanish and French I have encountered.
All in all, each country is different and treat tourists differently. But as long as you are open minded most Europeans tend to be polite, friendly and curious about the US.

It's wonderful, expect to be amazed, the people are nice, everything.

Sorry to say but your question is way to broad. Europe is very different and hard to explain in such a small forum as this. Every country in Europe is different and special from each other. You need to ask specific questions about specific countries to get better answers.

Believe me you want to visit and often. And don't believe the people who tell you they don't like Americans. That isn't true at all, they actually do like Americans. However they don't like rude people who act superior...traits that many Americans have. Once they learn that you are interested in them and to be part of their culture, they are very friendly.

I love Europe, it is wonderful to stroll around in the old cities, sit in a sidewalk cafe drinking coffee, watching people.
Like any place in the world there are nice people and not so nice people. The difference: it is an old country but also very modern.

I live in europe (england), been to rome, barcelona, lisbon, and a few other smaller cities. Theres a lot of culture in all the big european cities, but a lot of the people kinda keep themselves to themselves. The hospitality side of things, europe are a fair bit behind the u.s.

it's great, the people are mostly very nice. but i wouldn't put it on display that i were a tourist (or an american) if i were you. Most people don't like americans. i'ev been allover italy and it's the most fun i'ev ever had on holiday, apart from hawaii, but that goes without saying!
