This stems from another question that was asked and got me thinking. How far into the stands can a player go? Can he run up the aisle for a foul ball?

A fielder may go as far as it takes to make the catch. Think about it; if the stands weren't there...
Many times a stadium will set up temporary seating in foul territory to accommodate more spectators. That doesn't mean the fielder has to stop just because of that new imaginary line.

If the player steps off the field to catch a foul ball, then it's not an out. Just as if the player fields or catches a ball while any part of his body is touching foul territory, it's just a foul ball.

FYI Aladdinwa......you can field a ground ball while standing in foul territory. You can have your entire body in foul territory, but as long as the ball is in fair territory when you first touch it, it is a fair ball. It is where the ball is when it is first touched by a fielder, not where the fielder is standing.

A fielder cannot go into the stands to make a play. He can reach, jump, sometimes fall into the stands though.

as far as he can reach in ..once he steps into the seating area he is out of play..unless he all ready has the ball in hand or mitt already he can jump in to make a catch as long as the last thing his feet was touching was part of the field of play

A player cannot go into the stands.

He can go as far as his momentum takes him into the stands . But he cannot simple go into the stands...that's outta play.
