It's not really a tricky business at all. It's just that most women are uneducated about the timing of pregnancy and how their cycle works. For most women who have normal 28 day cycles, their fertile time is going to be 14 days after the first day of their last menstral cycle - give or take a day or two - if you keep track of your periods - it's easy to know if your chances are high or low on getting pregnant. Sometimes your body gets out of whack on the timing but I've found that out of the 5 times I've been pregnant - it did happen 14 days after the first day of my last menstral cycle - give or take a day or two. I think all women should be educated better on how their body works and the hormones involved. As it is - you can get through alot of medical training and not understand these simple things.

Ovulation sometimes never happens.
If it does happen, it only happens once and that egg is viable for 12 hours.

If there is no sperm alive to fertilize the egg (sperm can live up to 5 days), you won't get pregnant.

If your body doesn't create enough hormone to keep you from miscarrying the baby, you miscarry. Many many reasons, but you got lucky this time.

Congratulations!

Ha Ha. It only takes once. I learned that one with my fourth. My husband had a contract job in Houston and we live in DFW, five hours away. He was only home on weekends. We were only intimate once that month and I wasn't due to ovulate for a week after. Well, I ovulated early and what do you know, we had our fourth.

Men should not have sex everyday if you trying to conceive. The sperm count needs to be high enough for a better chance. So, thats probably what happened to you! Congratulations!!!

That's so funny! My husband was out of town for 2 weeks, so I drove 4 hours to where he was to spend the weekend with him so we didn't miss ovulation! I thought we HAD missed it, but apparantly not. I am 9 weeks pregnant!
