I received a 14 day notice to quit. Im scared and upset. I can pay what I owe by next week. I will pay as much as I can on Friday.
Its my understanding that I have to leave and if after 14 days are up, I need to go to court but that could take a few weeks.
I have nowhere to go, noone to take me and my family in.
If i get evicted, I wont be able to get another lease for years probably.
My husband was out of work and now finally has work. We have been late before.I got a raise at work, and my husband's new job has been giving him overtime when it can.
People say save for a rainy day, set aside 2 mos rent in case things go wrong. But we were living paycheck to paycheck and couldnt afford to.
We have no luxury in our lives. No vacations in 6 years, cant remember last nice dinner out.so dont say cut back there is no where to cut back.
I will talk to office today but I feel hopeless, what can i say to these ppl?

We already have paychecks coming in. So its not like I have to wait for a held back week or anything.

contact whoever you need and explain to them the situation and how you can resolve this. tell them you are very willing to work with them. also contact the welfare dept in your town and let them know what is going on and maybe they can get you in as an emergency case. they can maybe help you temporarily while you are waiting for the paychecks to start coming in.

Not much legally you can do. About all you can do is talk to the office and explain your situation and pray for some human mercy. The property management has its own reason for evicting you but whether they can be made to change their minds is how well you can negotiate. If not you can always force them to evict you which could buy you some time and then always vacate the premises before the court date, but you will still end up moving. The courts will always tend to side with the landlords. Use this time to find what ever living conditions you can afford to get. But in the meantime talk to the owners and see if you can make a deal with them and then stick t it because you wont get a third chance. Good luck

I don't think you are in a hopeless situation. You need to call up Legal Aid (check the phone book) and get a free consultation. The lawyer can talk to your landlord and maybe get you an extension of time if you can pay a little bit on the debt each week.

I would try talking to your landlord and try let her know when you will be able to pay the full amount, let her know that your husband is now back to work and you just need a few weeks to get back on your feet. Living paycheck to paycheck is hard. Just try to explain things the best you can...hopefully they with give you guys a break. Good Luck!

I don't know where you live, but here the landlord must give the renter 30 days notice for an eviction. Check your local laws...you might have more time than that.

Your not alone. See if either of your parents can help you both get over the hurdle. Everyone is having these issues thanks to Bush.
